1 injured in attack on villagers in Northern Upper Nile

At least one person was injured on Sunday after gunmen attacked a village in Adar County of Northern Upper Nile state, a local official said.

Adar County Commissioner Deng Goc Jok told Radio Tamazuj that the attack on Agordit village left one person injured. He added that the injured man was taken to hospital for treatment in Paloich area.

Goc identified the man who sustained gunshot wounds as Joh Palier.

“The attack took place around 4 am when gunmen came and attacked innocent civilians,” he explained.

The county official also said 46 goats burnt in a fire incident during the armed attacked. “It was raining in the village when the attack took place. The attackers also shot a cow,” he said.

Commissioner Deng, however, said normalcy had returned to the area, and investigations were ongoing to identify the attackers.

He accused criminals from neighboring Maban County of launching the attack.

Separately, the commissioner has vowed to tackle insecurity in his county, pledging to work together with local authorities in neighboring counties to improve the security situation.

Goc urged the government to resolve land disputes in the region.

The commissioner decried that there are no hospitals, schools and any infrastructure in his county, saying insecurity hinders development activities.

“Many people are living here in the county but children do not go to school,” he said.
